Description

This is a training model for endotracheal intubation. It is possible to practice normal endotracheal intubation practices, of course, as well as to re-create various kinds of edema. Three types of edema can be created by injecting air in to one of the colored cuffs. Variable amounts of air can be injected to train students on varying levels and severity of three common edema conditions. Tegmen edema is simulated with the green cuff, tongue edema with the blue cuff, and edemas found on the posterior wall of the larynx are mimicked with the white cuff. More original features include the ability to re-create the Cormack grade of 1-3, with capabilities to change the visibility of the glottis by administering the BURP technique. More features include the use of a specially developed silicone rubber with a highly similar appearance and feel to that of a living human body. The model offers realistic resistance to open the larynx and oral cavity. The dilation of the stomach can be confirmed when air is injected in to the esophagus, and left and right respiratory sounds can be heard with a stethoscope. The model makes a cautionary sound when a laryngoscope places excessive pressure on the front teeth. Students can use Esophageal Detector Devices to verify the position of the endotracheal tube. Additional parts are available to simulate the situations of micrognathia and head-tilt distress.
